Engineering Intern (VA)

Position Summary:        

Mechanical Engineering Intern is responsible for generating equipment drawings and assisting on engineering projects and tasks.

 

Key Responsibilities:                  

  • Generate manufacturing drawings of existing and new equipment.
  • Provide engineering, troubleshooting, and hands-on support to Production, Maintenance, and other teams as needed, in a multi-disciplined environment. 

 

Education and Experience:

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering/Engineering Technology degree in-progress
  • Previous 3D modelling and drawing experience (CREO, SolidWorks, or Inventor)
  • Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills preferred
  • Strong written and oral communication skills preferred

Production Associate - Night Shift (VA)

Tecton Products is now Marvin Composites! 

Marvin Composites in Salem,VA is a proud member of the Marvin Family of Companies.  We design and manufacture fiberglass-reinforced plastics through an innovative process called pultrusion. Pultruded materials are an ideal replacement for traditional building materials in many applications - we are proud to be the world leader in pultrusion! 

Production Associates fill one of two roles.  Associates are selected for one of these positions based on interest, skills, and previous experience.

1.  Pultrusion Operators - Operators are responsible for running a production line.  They ensure a continuous supply of raw materials, machine set up and operation, and troubleshooting.  This position requires associates to manage and prioritize multiple tasks that ensure the continuous operation of the production line.  Candidates must have a good memory and problem-solving skills.  Once trained, this position provides training and mentoring to new associates.  Basic math and computer skills are required.

2.  Pultrusion Inspectors - This position inspects finished goods as they come off the manufacturing line, prepares shipping labels, and packs products.  Responsibilities include operating fabrication equipment, monitoring product quality to ensure customer specifications are met, and preparing equipment/materials for production runs.  Once trained, provide mentoring and training to new associates.  Basic math and computer skills are required.

In this role, you will play a vital role in ensuring our equipment and facilities are running efficiently. Your expertise in troubleshooting, repairing, and ordering parts will be essential in maintaining our high standards of quality. With this position, you’ll have the opportunity to take ownership of your work and make a real impact on our operations.

Highlights of your role:

  • Keep our facilities safe, clean, and organized performing maintenance
  • Provide timely support, root cause determination, and good follow-up on maintenance issues
  • Plan work effectively, coordinating with production & leadership to ensure success
  • Order parts and repairs as needed to keep our equipment running smoothly
  • Monitor and maintain facility equipment to minimize downtime and scrap
  • Continuously improve equipment, processes, methods, etc. to drive innovation

Schedule: 6:30 AM - 6:45 PM

The normal work schedule includes working 36 hours one week (Sun/Wed/Thu) and 48 hours the next (Mon/Tue/Fri/Sat).

  • Work 7 out of 14 days

Pay: Effective hourly rate: $26-36 /hr

Rate includes: Base pay + $ 4.00-weekend premium

Shift Supervisor - Days (VA)

Position Summary:        

Ensures maximum safety, quality, and productivity during their shift by developing associates and distributing work assignments for maximum effectiveness and productivity.   The key metrics are safety, quality, productivity, turnover and retention.  Facilitates the progression of associates through the Skill Level Development program thereby developing a high-performance culture.  The Shift Supervisor is a leader in the company and must present him/herself as a leader. 

 

Key Responsibilities:                  

  • Actively develop and manage the culture of your team to align with Tecton's mission and values, as measured by survey scores, turnover, retention, and other key culture metrics of the position
  • Help create a safe working environment by holding associates accountable for safe behavior and leading by example
  • Accurate reporting and communication throughout the company regarding shift metrics
  • Perform root cause analysis, identify and communicate opportunities for improvement, and implement solutions
  • Ensure information from other functional groups (such as HR and Safety) that impacts associates is communicated timely 
  • Lead in the development, training, and mentoring of direct reports. Develop and encourage self sufficiency of associates by teaching them the skills they need to be successful and encouraging continuous improvement
  • Hold associates accountable to performing to the expectations of their position and promptly address deficiencies
  • Utilize labor efficiently to maintain on-time delivery, and MF/MH metrics

Education and Experience:

  • Prefer three or more years of effective supervisory experience in a manufacturing setting. 
  • Two year degree preferred. 
  • Effective verbal and non-verbal communication skills.
  • Analytical ability to find root cause and implement solutions.

Day Shift: 6:30 AM – 6:45 PM

  • The normal work schedule includes working 36 hours one week (Sun/Wed/Thu) and 48 hours the next (Mon/Tue/Fri/Sat).
  • Work 7 out of 14 days and every other weekend is a three-day weekend off!

 Wage includes $20.75 base + $4.00 weekend premium + OT
